Eric Shear is currently studying for his honours bachelor’s in space science (physics and astronomy stream) at York University in Toronto, Ontario. Previously, he completed the two-year engineering program at Tacoma Community College in Tacoma, Washington. In addition to his engineering experience on York University’s Mars Rover team, he and his team completed a student experiment on NASA’s Weightless Wonder microgravity aircraft in summer 2011. That experiment was successful, and returned much valuable data on how to operate a fuel cell at low pressure in zero-gravity. He is the CEO/CTO of a startup called Vulcan Aerospace that will specialize in resource utilization technologies. This family of technologies will allow astronauts to live off the land on other worlds. It is his life goal to become the first deaf astronaut. His position in the Mars Initiative reflects his passion to make space accessible for all.
